Everything about Glasgow University Boat Club totally explained

Glasgow University's Boat Club is one of the oldest institutions at the Glasgow University. The club has a rich tradition stretching back to its foundation in 1877. In 2004 the club underwent an historic transformation, with the acceptance of female students into the club. The Edinburgh vs. Glasgow Boat Raceis the 2nd oldest such event in the UK, with only the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race having a longer tradition. The event grows in popularity each year and it has become a major highlight of the Scottish rowing calendar.
The Boat Club has long been considered one of the most successful clubs at the University. GUBC has produced crews that have and continue to compete successfully at both a Scottish and national level. Club members have frequently been chosen to represent Scotland and at both the Home International Regatta, and recently the inaugural European University Championships. Over the past few years, Glasgow University has gone from strength to strength, with both the men's and women's crews considered among the best in the UK.
Until 2005, the club was the last independently funded sports club on campus, before being subsumed into the Glasgow University Sports Association, formerly the GU Athletic Club.
